ANALYSIS OF MILLION DOLLAR BABY

MILLION DOLLAR BABY: ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT SHOTS IN TRAILER

Long shot showing Hilary Swank boxing from the perspective of an outsider.

Wide angle shot showing Hilary Swank boxing from a different perspective with low lighting

Medium shot showing Hilary Swank with her coach, introduces a character as well as showing introducing the relationship between two characters to the audience.

Close up shot showing Hilary practising her technique, helps to create a montage of boxing shots that could show the audience that time is passing.

Wide shot to reveal the scenery, helps to depict its early morning and that Hilary Swank is working hard.

Medium/Close up shot to depict the atmosphere on the night of the fight but at the same time to focus on the main character for audiences to see how she is feeling.

Extreme wide shot with a high angle to give the audience a sense of what the atmosphere would be like and to give the audience a wide perspective on the scene and situation.

USE OF DIFFERENT CAMERA ANGLES AND EDITING IN FILM TRAILER

The Fighter Movie Trailer

Watching the trailer, many different camera angles were used to represent different things whether it be the character or the location. By analysing the different angles mixed with editing it inspires me to the many different angles i could use when shooting and editing my own movie trailer with a similar subject.

Medium shot showing main character training with his
trainer on a lower level

Close up shot to show the expression of main character
as he fights to hit as hard as he can

Close up shot using the 180 degree rule to flip between characters.
Close up enables the audience to see the characters injuries.

Crane shot, to show location and ambience of the scene
making the main character look small in comparison.

Close up to show the expression of girl. Helps to
emphasise her aggressive side due to upbringing.

Close up using 180 degree rule on the other side to see
emotion and for viewer to

USE OF DIFFERENT CAMERA ANGLES AND EDITING IN MUSIC VIDEO ABOUT BOXING

ONE MORE NIGHT - MAROON 5

With movie trailers having a similar concept to music video's, to summarise themes and ideas of the plot quickly, I decided to analyse a music video with a similar theme to see how shots are ranged and quickly cut together to create an effective overview of the ideas of the video.

1) Close up of the hand to demonstrate the boxing tape

2) Blurred medium shot of main character next to punching bag

3) Close up to show the emphasise of the punch the
main character throws.

4) Low angle shot of main character boxing, emphasises
him and makes him look more important/bigger than he actually
might appear.

5) Wide angle shot to show the location and set the scene,
the large boxing rings emphasizes how in fact the main character
is a small part of something big.
