Soundtrack for Lucky Punch

First Song : Ed Sheeran - Wayfaring Stranger

Ed Sheeran, British born singer, songwriter and producer began recording in 2005 and moved to London to persue his career in 2008. After breaking through commercially in 2011 he signed to Atlantic Records. Since his career began, Sheeran has won 2 BRIT Awards for Best British Male and British Breakthrough of the Year along with the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.  His song Wayfaring Stranger an adaption from the original Wayfaring Stranger by Johnny Cash caught my immediate attention when listening to it as beat in the introduction and throughout sounds extremely similar to the sound made when punching a punching bag.  Using the music editing software Garage Band i plan to edit the song using the timings from 0:11 seconds to 0:43 seconds, fading out from 0:35 seconds. With the sound of beat being a dominant part of the song i feel it will help set the scene and link in nicely to my opening shot of the character of Tom running to the gym in the early hours of the morning and practising his punches once in the gym on a punching bag.  Although the genre of Sheerans music "Nu-folk" doesn't have much connection with boxing, it is the contrast and the beat that links it and makes it effective. The same idea was used in Award winning film "Raging Bull" with the classical piece of music Intermezzo by Pietro Mascagni.

Second Song : Right Here, Right Now - Fatboy Slim

Also British born, Norman Cook otherwise known as 'Fatboy Slim' is a DJ, Musician and Record Producer known for his genre of Dance music. Reaching No.2 in the British charts, the basic string melody of the song was sampled from the James Gang song "Ashes, the Rain & I ". Right Here, Right Now has already been used for numerous different sporting events such as 3 of the Super Bowl's : XL XLIII and XLV. It has also been used in Premier League football games as well as in the  Australian Football and this summers Olympics 2012 Closing Ceremony. With the genre of my film being a British Sports Drama, a song that has had recognition in many momentous sporting events would be appropriate and help create a successful representation. For the film trailer i am intending on editing the song using the same software i plan to edit Wayfaring Stranger with. How i edit and cut the song is dependant on the footage which i need to film first but i intend to end on 1:19 when the beat drops.
